How to make Kheer

How to make Kheer

This sweet dish has many names all around India. It’s known as kheer in Hindi, parvaannam in Telugu, and paayesh in Bangla. But one word almost everyone in India understands the word paayasam.

The best part about this dish is that almost anyone can make it, as it requires only three ingredients: milk, rice, and sugar. So, why don’t you give it a try?

Remember, always take an adult’s help in the kitchen.

Steps to Cook Payasam

  • Wash 1/4 cup of rice in water till it looks clean.
  • Boil 1/2 litre (one packet) of milk in a thick-bottomed pot.
  • Add the rice to the boiling milk and stir gently. If you’re a little worried about adding the rice to the hot milk, use a ladle or spoon to stir it into the pot gently.
  • Cook the rice on low heat till it becomes soft. Keep stirring occasionally so it doesn’t stick.
  • Once the rice is cooked, add sugar and stir till it melts. Ask an elder how much sugar your family likes. Usually, equal quantities of rice and sugar work well.
  • Simmer the payasam for a few more minutes, and you’re done!
