How to make Aam Panna

Aam Panna is a refreshing summer drink made from raw mangoes. It is a powerhouse of Vitamin C to boost your immunity and essential electrolytes like magnesium and potassium, which help keep your body hydrated and energised during hot, sunny days.

Raag and Laya's Nanamma (grandmother) would definitely approve!

Remember, always take an adult’s help in the kitchen.

Ingredients

  1. 2 large raw mangoes (green and firm)
  2. 1/2 cup jaggery powder or unrefined sugar
  3. 1 tsp roasted cumin powder (jeera)
  4. 1/2 tsp black salt (kala namak)
  5. A handful of fresh mint leaves
  6. 1 litre chilled water
  7. Ice cubes (optional)

Method

Steam the Mangoes: Wash the mangoes and pressure cook them for 2–3 whistles, or steam until the skin is soft. Let them cool completely.

Extract the Pulp: Peel the skin and squeeze the pulp into a bowl, discarding the seed.

Blend: Combine the pulp, jaggery, cumin powder, black salt, and mint leaves in a blender. Process until smooth.

Dilute: Mix the paste with 1 litre of chilled water in a large pitcher.

Serve: Pour into glasses and enjoy!
